Like Water, an animated short film directed by Christopher Lopez, tells the story of André, a 19 year old photographer from San Francisco who learns to let go and embrace himself. This personal story is inspired by my Summer of 2021.
Visual Development
Visual Development for Like Water started in the Fall of 2021. Although the film was completed and released in February of 2024, the original color scripts, prop design, and character designs remained true to the specificity of André, the San Francisco Bay Area as the setting, and the colors that capture his journey of letting go,
Production Process
Production of Like Water started in my Fall 2022 Junior Project Class and was completed in the early weeks of my Spring 2024 Senior Project Class. I took reference video, storyboarded, painted every background, voice acted, animated, colored, and edited the entire film on my MacBook Pro & iPad 6 Generation. I animated using TV Paint & Procreate Dreams, painted each background on Adobe Photoshop & Procreate, and edited in post production using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Film Release Marketing
Like Water Premiered February 15, 2024 on YouTube at 7pm. I created a social media account @likewaterfilm and promoted the film using LIVE, content creation, and placing posters around the California College of the Art's Campus.
